What Is Petite Sizing And Where Can You Buy The Best Petite Clothes?

Petite sizing in women’s fashion can be confusing, and it is not always straight-forward. The term ‘petite’ is largely used in the fashion industry to describe clothing that is made for women who are 5’3” and under.

You can be any size from 2-18 and above and be considered petite, though you won’t necessarily find all of those sizes readily available from fashion brands in the UK. The majority of petite fashion brands sell clothing in sizes 8-16. So if you are outside of these sizes it can be a challenge to find well-fitting clothes.

Many women who are above 5’3” also prefer to wear petite clothing for a better fit compared to regular size clothing that is made for women who are up to 5’9” tall. Equally, petite women do not always need to buy clothes that are made specifically for women who are 5’3” and under. Ultimately, there is no one size fits all and it may take some trial and error to find what works best for you.

So how is petite clothing different to regular clothing? Petite clothes are of course shorter in length but they also have modified proportions to ensure a better fit for a smaller frame.

If you think petite clothes might be a good option for you but you’re not sure, the best thing to do is to think about how regular size clothes fit you right now. Are you constantly rolling up the sleeves on tops? Do your jeans bunch at the ankles? Do dresses fall in all the wrong places, particularly at your bust and waist? Do coats drown your frame? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then it may be time to try some petite clothes.

Although the choice for petite clothing is still relatively small compared to regular size clothes and the sizes are not all that inclusive at the moment, there are some fantastic petite brands in the UK right now.
