We Review FFS: Is The Award-Winning Razor Worth It?

I decided to review the FFS razor because frankly I knew for a long time that I needed to up my razor game both in terms of quality and the need to take serious action when it comes to using more sustainable products.

If you’re anything like me then you probably tend to use cheap razors, with the occasional ‘new me’ Boots outburst where you invest in a slightly nicer more durable one, only to return to your previous bad habits in a month or two when your blades become useless.

So I decided to give FFS a go because their razors are made in the UK, they have a blade recycling scheme, use minimal packaging that is also recyclable and are cruelty free. A stark contrast to my previous cheap plastic razors!

So I went on to the FFS website and placed an order. I signed up to a subscription (which you don’t have to do) as I was committed to giving this a proper try. I also knew needing new blades had been the main pitfall in sticking with reusable handle razors in the past and so having these on regular order would stop that. So I added monthly blade delivery which I wouldn’t need to pay for until they were shipped the following month.

Is It Any Good?

Well first of all I have to say the cost is great. For the razor handle, a blade and a shower holder the cost was just £14. So it’s very affordable. I wanted to add in a few extras though and you can see the full list below.

I ordered the infamous FFS Razor and a pack of refill blades and I also ordered a the body scrub, the shaving cream and the body cream as a one off. Pro-tip: if you want more than one blade which is what comes with the FFS Razor as standard, then add the refill blades to your order first and you are then offered a free handle saving you £9!

I tailored my subscription to a once a month delivery, you can have them less frequently if you wish, you can also cancel or pause at any time without any cost which I really love. I decided to only commit to receiving monthly blades for my subscription but if I enjoyed any of the other products I could add these to my subscription at a later date. It’s worth noting you don’t have to purchase a subscription. Everything can be bought as a one off.

The parcel arrived through the letterbox in a few days which I was really surprised about. FFS have made a big effort to ensure the packaging is as minimal as possible and is recyclable to reduce waste.

The FFS razor feels like serious adulting. Firstly, it is really pretty, which I get is a ridiculous thing to say about a razor but it’s true! Firstly mine was rose-gold and the blades are diamond coated. The metal handle is weighty too giving it a quality feel and it’s nice to hold which is something I never knew I wanted or needed.

What’s The Verdict

So first things first I tried the razor on my legs and under arms. I used the shaving cream as well, which smells lovely and you get a lot for your money there too. When I used the razor it was so smooth it didn’t feel like it was doing anything and I thought I’d put the blade on wrong. I inspected my leg but it was in actual fact working fine, so I guess the razor was living up to its name Friction Free Shaving.

When my legs were dry and moisturised I inspected the results. My legs and under arms were definitely much smoother than with my usual cheap blades. When I put some joggers on after, I couldn’t help notice how smooth and soft my legs felt against them, I suspect largely due to the shaving cream and as I suffer from dry legs this was a bonus I hadn’t expected.

The shower holder was also a great touch to keep the razor handy and out of the way. The only thing I regretted not purchasing was the protector case, a must for anyone who has nipped their fingers when not being careful enough and great for travelling, so I’ll be adding this in shortly.

I ended up pausing my blade delivery for a month, as I just didn’t need replacements quite yet and FFS even reminded me that my order was being worked on and to let them know if I wanted to change anything or amend the order. Great if you’re worried about keeping on top of a subscription.

Overall I was really pleased with the purchase and can’t really see myself ending the subscription. Not having to think about it and just having the refill razors arrive on my doorstep when I need them is great, it’s a good product that’s sustainable and affordable and doesn’t have a lot of competition in that respect.

Gillette have some great alternatives out there and while they don’t quite tick all the same boxed their range is a little more extensive and suits a range of budgets and you can check out their range here

Chatting to the team, we would highly recommend FFS and quite a few of us are now in fact FFS users. So give them a go, we don’t think you’ll regret it.
