The Autumn Edit: Everything We're Excited to Wear This Season
There's something about autumn that makes getting dressed exciting again. The return of beautiful coats, our favourite boots, cosy knitwear and jeans you've missed wearing all summer. And, of course, the thrill of discovering what's new for the season ahead.
There are some gorgeous new-season petite arrivals. From stunning coats and fresh denim to the little additions that make an outfit, we've been finding the pieces we're most excited to wear this autumn.
And we’re also rediscovering old favourites already in our wardrobes, bringing summer dresses into autumn with boots and knitwear, and mixing investment pieces from years ago with high-street finds to create outfits that feel fresh again without even spending a penny.
Here's what's caught our eye.

The Romantic Side of Autumn
There's a side to autumn dressing that I love just as much as cosy coats and boots. The return of lace, satin and those beautiful little pieces that make getting dressed for an evening out feel exciting again.
A lace-trimmed camisole beneath a favourite jacket, a satin blouse with jeans, or a beautiful midi dress that makes us want to find somewhere lovely to wear it. This is the season for candlelit dinners, fireside drinks and evenings that stretch a little longer than planned.
We're particularly drawn to the softer, more romantic pieces this autumn. The Allura V-Neck Midi and Satin Cowl Neck Midi bring the glamour, while the Free People cami and FatFace lace blouse make it easy to introduce a little romance into everyday outfits.
And then there are the finishing touches. A gorgeous pair of earrings, a delicate necklace, perhaps both. Sometimes it's the smallest additions that make getting dressed feel exciting again.
A little lace, a little satin, a reason to stay out late.
The New Additions That Change Everything
Sometimes all it takes is one new piece to make everything else in your wardrobe feel exciting again. These are the coats, knits, denim and little discoveries we're particularly drawn to this autumn.
I love a wardrobe refresh, but that doesn't mean starting again every season. Often, it's one new piece that makes you see everything you already own differently.
A beautiful coat can transform the jeans and knitwear you've worn for years. A new pair of boots might be just what your favourite dresses need to carry them into autumn. And sometimes it's something smaller: a scarf in colours you wouldn't usually choose, a bag that works with almost everything, or a piece of jewellery that makes even the simplest outfit feel special.
What Chic Women Are Actually Buying From M&S
The pieces making M&S exciting right now, plus what to buy, how to wear it and the petite finds I'd actually recommend.

My yellow M&S dress was one of my favourite finds of the summer, and I'm certainly not ready to put it away.
For autumn, I love wearing it with my black Fairfax & Favor boots, a brown jacket and a checked scarf. Together, they give the dress a completely different feel for autumn. It's understated, but still has that lovely, elevated finish.
The dress itself has sold out, but that's rather the point. Sometimes the best autumn outfits start with something you already own. Shop the look below.

The Pieces We're Falling Back in Love With
The Black Jeans I Can't Wait to Wear Again
Some pieces earn their place in your wardrobe, and my M&S Magic Shaping High-Waisted Slim Flare Jeans have certainly earned theirs in mine.
I bought them last autumn, and they're just as flattering now as they were then. They're figure-hugging in all the right places, comfortable around the waist, and have a feminine, modern silhouette that still feels timeless. Even better, after a whole season of wear, the black is still properly jet black.
My petite fit tip: I'm just under 5ft 3in, but I deliberately bought the regular length. I wanted to wear them with heels, with the hem falling almost to the floor and just a glimpse of shoe showing underneath.
If you're shorter or plan to wear yours with trainers, petite may be the better option. But don't automatically choose petite because of your height. Think about the shoes you'll wear and where you want the hem to fall.
The Investment Boots That Have Gone the Distance
My Fairfax & Favor Heeled Regina boots are another autumn favourite. I bought them in 2021, and five years later, they're still the boots I reach for again and again.
I own both tan and black suede, and they still look and fit almost exactly as they did when I bought them. At £445, they're a serious investment, but they've given me five years of wear and have a wonderful way of bringing an outfit together.
I'm petite, with relatively short legs, and the standard-height Reginas work beautifully for me. Fairfax & Favor now also offers a Petite Heeled Regina in tan suede, with a shaft 2cm shorter than the original. There are Narrow, Regular and Sporting calf-fit options, so it's worth checking both the height and calf measurements before buying but I certainly love them.
Autumn, Your Way
That's what I'm most looking forward to this season: rediscovering old favourites, finding new ways to wear them, and adding a few beautiful things along the way.
There will always be something tempting in the shops, but the real fun is putting it all together in a way that feels like you.
And if a new coat, a little lace or the perfect pair of boots happens to find its way into the wardrobe? Well, autumn wouldn't be quite the same without them.
